There's also the factor of moisture percolating to the surface of the salt
in the heat of the day.  Salt growth is from the brine that is drawn to the
surface, evaporating, and leaving salt flowers/crystals on the surface.
These are part of the "dust" people have been talking about.  The salt is
constantly moist.  Even on the driest day, if you were to sit on the salt
without something under your rear you would end up with a stiff seat on your
pants.
