Dan, interesting! Know all ye, that I do not plan on running any kind of
tire/wheel that isn't traditional, but I have a curiosity about this. Dan
are you up to some speculations in this area? For instance, how small was th
tire/wheel (width) that made the rut? Was it shaped like the rule book says,
i.e. rounded and no sharp "tread" edges? If the tire/wheel had some flat
tread surface would it have left the gouge/ruts? I am thinking that a
rounded metal tire leaves a grove because there is no contact patch. If the
metal wheel had some width it would act more like a lawn roller and just
flatten out the surface. Metal wheels surely do eliiminate tire rolling
resistance , but have sorry taction compared to good old rubber or whatever
tires are made from... This is interesting technically.
