Right on, Neil. As you say, the deep-cycle battery doesn't like high
charging voltages so it is best used with no charging system(total-loss)
in a race car, and re-charged with the special charger NAPA sells which
limits the voltage to a lower figure than the common battery charger
supplies.
At the early stage, when I had a bad ignition fault, then unknown, and
had some old-time racecar guys over to help diagnose it, we cranked and
cranked, trying everything, on #124. This went on for a long, long
time. Finally, one of the salty guys said, "Day-um, Bill, that's one
hell of a battery you got in there!!" And you guessed it, it was the
NAPA Marine Deep-Cycle job. Bill
