There's probably some truth to that, Neil, car wire wheels have a lot of
pretty fat spokes.  Motorcycle wire wheels aren't as tightly packed with
spokes.  I think air would have an easier time getting through a spinning
wire wheel than would water.  My bike will have three spoke cast wheels, so
it shouldn't be that hard to "vent" the wheel.
