I recently read a history book about LSR that has now become not only my
favorite book on the subject, but also one of my all-time top automotive
books. It is called "Life with the Speed King", by Leo Vila, who was
Campbell Senior's mechanic during Campbell's entire racing career and
also worked with Junior.
The book's format is three or four b&w pictures per page with text down
the outside explaining what was going on. It is arranged
chronologically. and cover's Campbell's LSR and non-LSR exploits from
about 1910 until he broke the 300 mph record at Bonneville. (1934?)
The photos are all fantastic and the "I was there" text commentary is
riveting.
If you can find a copy of this book, pay whatever they ask! ISBN #
0-7232-2860-4 and published by Marshall Harris and Bladwin Ltd., London,
1979. I think it may have also been reprinted since then.
