List,

I don't know much about the subject but here's what I see.

Honda specifies and markets a coolant that > may < be similar to Dexcool.
Honda prohibits the use of a coolant that has silicates, phosphates and
borate's in the additive package. They specify an initial change at 105,000
and every 60,000 after that. The Honda stuff is pre-mixed at 50/50.
That sounds to me like it is very, very sensitive to contamination which
would go along with Louise's experience.

Is it possible that Honda uses a different additive package?
How about the Prestone version of Dexcool, is it different?

Thanks everybody, I'm going to pick up a jug of coolant at Honda today
and make sure I keep the tank as full as it will stand.
One more thing for what it's worth, the Honda shop manual does not
recommend any flushing when changing the coolant, just drain and
refill (contamination?).

Thanks for the education, as usual this list is like a post graduate seminar,
Bryan
