Jon;
You're probably thinking of a rotary- barrel "Gatling gun" like the GE 30mm
cannon on the A-10 "Warthog", a truly impressive weapon that spits out
depleted uranium slugs at a furious rate.
A "rail gun" is an electromagnetic launcher for a projectile that achieves
incredible velocities. It dosn't have a conventional barrel and doesn't use
a powder propellant. It launches a small projectile by passing a huge
electric current through the projectile as it is forced down the rails
(electrical contacts)by magnetic repulsion. Sort of like a super loudspeaker
voice coil, except that the "voice coil" is actually launched out of the
magnet--- POW!

IF its what I have been thinking is a high speed action, bullet flying
weapon. These type of guns could put out high amounts of ammo in a very
very short period of time. Kinda like the machine guns. Not sure what
caliper ammo they use?
