Hey, what do I know??????
First I didn't tell or write any one to stay home. All competitors are
welcome. If they pass the safety inspection they get to run. If they fit
into a classification we have in the rule book they get to compete. You can
enter anything you want in any class you want, but the Meet Director and the
Contest Board may not let it stay that way. It doesn't necessarily take a
protest.
We as inspectors may suggest that a competitor has misinterpreted a
rule or phrase in the book and have it ironed out prior to leaving the
inspection area, I have personally done this many times and was thanked by
the competitor, it however it not the inspectors responsibility to do so. If
a competitor fights or argues with an inspector over every little area being
checked all the inspectors I have had the pleasure of working with have held
their composer, had the head inspector come over and handle the problem. I
have never witnessed any "grudge" or "retribution" in an inspection line or
in impounds. I look at the vehicles and their safety, workmanship and not
whose names are on the lines.
Being protested is not a pleasant experience. At one time in the early
80's my roadster was know as the protest special because I couldn't hardly
run with out one. (It was found to be legal every time.)
I didn't call your car or any other vehicle a "piece of shit". I was
speaking of how entrant enters their car names and then, when they do good,
wish they had not put what they did on that "entry" line.
I personally, by phone, helped a Circle Track guy get his car prepared
correctly for the 2000 Bonneville meet. He was held to a top speed of 175
by the Head Technical and Head Inspector, he could have gone faster but was
very happy with his experience. He was happy to run in time only and didn't
feel a class should be made for him.
