I got back from Bonneville Wednesday and really enjoyed my first Speed
Week. Didn't have a chance to say hi to many people, but did get to visit
some with Keith Turk while he worked on his car and also said hi to the Amo
brothers while they were setting up in the pits. I can't believe how big
the pits were and how many cars and bikes there were.
The coolest thing was attending the Motorcycle Rules Committee meeting on
Tuesday and making a proposal for expanding the electric motorcycle class.
Basically I'd like to get rid of the frame restrictions for electric
motorcycles, which are now limited to streamliners and streamlined
sidecars. My proposal was generally well received by those present,
although a few people voiced concerns about safety. After some discussion
we ended up creating a committee to look at safety requirements electric
bikes and to make recommendations for establishing a class structure for
electric motorcycles. Things are looking up!
Unfortunately I had to spend some time in Salt Lake City visiting with
friends and family and couldn't stay out at the Salt Flats as much as I'd
have liked. Did pick up a great book at Sam Weller's Bookstore in downtown
SLC, "Prepare to Win" by Carroll Smith. I think it's been mentioned on this
list before.
