About a year ago I picked up a running 1949 F1
because it was like the one I learned to drive
in. Annnnddd, that flathead sounded soooo coool.
I contemplated chopping the top, but didn't want
to mess up a good truck re-learning something I
hadn't done since 1963, so I scrounged around and
a guy gave me another F1 with a frozen motor. I
trailered it home, and pulled the cab off the
chassis. Then, one day I was pulling the clutch
off to see if the throw-out bushing could be used
for another project I was working on, and much to
my surprise, the "frozen" motor rotated.
"Hmmmmm", I wondered. So I poured a little gas
in the carburetor, put 12 volts to the starter,
and damned if the thing didn't fire off!!! A
couple of months ago I traded the original F1 off
for a 1936 Chev coupe, but I've still got the
parts truck. I have a nice chassis from the 54
Dodge sedan that donated it's hemi for other
projects, and I think the cab will channel down
on the chassis really cool.
Now, if I only live to 139 years old, I can get
to all of these projects!
