I always looked at it that you are starting with a 100 degree gearbox. When
you
warm the engine in neutral the trans gears are spinning too

I like to know if I have all the gears before each run. If you are using an
automatic trans is the fluid warming while running the engine in neutral?
In August this may not be as much of a problem if you are starting with the
trans and rearend fluids at ambient temp. I remember in Oct one year we
couldn't move the shift lever because the trans was too cold. We had to tow
the car around to warm the trans, no self starter on that one.
