When you say the pits are closed to spectator vehicles do you mean that if I
am a spectator I will not be allowed to take a vehicle anywhere on the salt
to watch the passes? I was under the impression that I could drive up and
down the sidelines of the course to watch.

        Scott & list
The pits are closed to spectator vehicles. You must have a crew or
official
staff windshield pass. best bet is to bring a bicycle. Motor bikes
are not
recommended. Plan on walking a lot as it's easier in the long run to
see
        everything.

As far as the heat, some of us have seen it close to 120 deg. on the
salt.
Sun screen, at least 45 and as you stated the salt refllects so
loose shorts
allow for burns close to the family jewels. Under your chin, ears
any thing
not protected can get burnt. Black shoes turn into ovens on the
feet. A cold
wet towel around the neck it a great help and cooling to the body.
Been
there, been burnt. A good straw hat that lets a little air in is a
god
thing. Coffee and other caffinated drinks dehydrate, Water is your
best
        friend.
