Be careful with the idea of outlawing 1 piece sidecar rigs. Sidecars that bolt
onto the side of regular production solo bikes haven't been used in real racing
since maybe just after WW2. Grand Prix bike rules require the front and rear
wheels be in line (with some small offset) so they can't go "tricycle". The
rig is built up on one triangular frame, not two piece. The main benefit is
the rider no longer straddles the motor. It is behind so you can hunker down
lower behind the front suspension. The car is usually on the left because
England is a major source of manufacture and because most modern bikes have a
left side drive chain so the wheel can unbolt like a car wheel.
I got to ride on one once. Crazy fun! 140 mph hanging onto the top of an
upside down bathtub.
