THANK YOU PAUL.

I KNOW ITS EASIER DONE ON PAPER THAN TRYING TO EXPLAIN IT TO SOMEONE
WITH A KEYBOARD! YOU PUT A QUITE A BIT OF TIME INTO THIS! I'LL FORWARD
THIS TO THE LIST, FOR THERE MAY BE OTHERS WHO WOULD APPRECIATE A "REFRESHER"
TOO !

THANKS AGAIN,..... DOUG A. in nU yAWK

Good morning Doug, work out your compression ratio as follows: 1)Cylinder
Head Volume) make your cyl head level and chamber upwards, place a piece of
plexi glass over one chamber and seal with grease, (it needs a small hole in
it) fill the chamber with appropiate liquid (parafin etc..) through the
hole, use either a burrette or a large syringe to hold the liquid then you
know how much in c.c.'s you've put in the chamber hey presto chamber volume!
2)Head gasket volume)
volume= 81.0732x gasket thickness(in centimetres)
3)cylinder volume)
0.7853982x(borexbore)X stroke, then convert the answer to metric(multiply it
by 2.54) now you have the volume in c.c's for all three parts so,
Compression Ratio = cylinder volume+chamber volume+gasket volume, divided by
chamber volume +gasket volume.
this is for flat top pistons!!! if you are using domed pistons you need the
volume of the dome, so take the piston down the bore untill the dome is
below the gasket face of the block, seal aroud the piston with grease and
fill the bore as per chamber volume using the plexi-glass, once you have
that volume, measure how far down the bore you've gone, and use that
meaurement as your stroke measurement in the cylinder volume equation, take
the second answer from the first and you've got your dome volume! work
everything out as per the flat top equations but remember to take your dome
volume off the head volume(chamber volume) nearly forgot, in both cases you
need to add the volume left in the bores at TDC to the gasket volume, use
the gasket volume equation, but put in the distance down the bore thepiston
is at tdc as the gasket thickness. Thats it, hope it makes sense.
Regards, Paul.
