TERRY; I'LL COPY N' PASTE YOU SOME DIALOG THAT I HAD COLLECED FROM ABOUT
7-8 MONTHS AGO WITH SOME OF THE GUYS REGARDING PRETTY MUCH THE SAME TOPIC.
OK? HOPE YA' LEARN SOM'PIN!
HERE GOES:
-------------------------------- from last November;
Doug, Maybe I'm missing something but I've always heard that the 49-53 Ford
"stick" transmission bell housing would bolt to some of the later Ford
manual transmissions. I did a SBC Lakewood "can" over to bolt up to a
49-53 8-BA Flatty block. I don't know about the input shaft length though.
In 96 we ran a SBC in the Gold Digger Lakester and used the Flat-O Matic
C-4 to Flatty block adapter. It took a little "fiddling" but worked.......
-Ardun Doug in CA.
--------------------------------------
Thank ya Doug I heard a rumor once about that particular bellhousing -but
have never seen one. Mebbe they are fairly scarce?
- Doug A in NY
--------------------------------------
Ardun Doug: There are some '52-'53 steel bellhousings for Mercurys, Doug,
that take late Ford trans. Don't seem them too often but my partner found
one at local flea market this year. Next time NY Doug is over here, he
should remind me to show it to him.
regards from NH where it has stopped snowing, John

----------- and more from another inquiry:
-------------------------
Hope someone can help,
In puttin' an 8BA in my '32 (orig. steel, no 'glass stuff). I can't find any
really good info on a good trans to go behind this. I would like to have a
top loader if possible, but hey, gotta do whatcha gotta do. I've got a new
Hal. QC for the rearend, so ratios are not a real problem. Any flathead guys
up there with any suggestions. Thanks for anything. Not a lot of flathead
folks here in N. Georgia

Tim,
If you can find a 8-BA (49-53 FoMoCo) passenger car stick-shift
bellhousing it will accept some of the later Ford 4-speed
trannys................Ardun Doug King

LIKE I SAID TERRY, HOPE SOME OF THIS JIBBERISH HELPS!
AND/OR
YOU CAN ALWAYS USE A SEARCH ENGINE, AND WRITE IN; FLATHEAD TRANSMISSIONS

Ardun Doug and list------ Doug 's interesting discussion on flatheads made
me curious about transmissions for same. For instance, what will fit behind
the 48 and earlier and the 49 and later. Also I have a 47 and a 49 Ford
three speed column transmission. Are the gears interchangeable into a 39 for
example. Are there any floor sticks, perhaps from a pickup truck, which
might work behind a flathead with an adaptor? Curious in Guam.
