Glen,

Guess I'm going to have to dig out pictures. Only thing I remember is that
they were pitted near Burt Munroe and his Indian bike. I paid special
attention because an old teacher/friend of mine, Glen Turner in Springville,
UT had restored an old bike and rode it in vintage costume ... had a great
time with it.

That''s the problem with being assigned to a specific spot on the salt and
needing to stay there. You know about things but never get to see them and
they end up as numbers and names. Don Cash gives out the timing slips and
sees some real emotions during a race ... but never gets a chance to walk
around the pits and visit with the people. His biggest regret about being
on the salt.

Did Travis ever get the "Suddenly" Plymouth running right? Wally drove it
147 or so but it never did sound like it was making power as it was on the
course.

Speaking of clutches, I've mentioned a clutch builder here in Salt Lake, Van
Garner, who does some very nice work. A guy came in to him and was
complaining that he wanted a clutch that would hold the power in his car.
He had burned up several clutches. They built him a clutch that could
handle the power he was putting out as he had requested. Next time they saw
him he was holding the clutch disc, with the transmission input shaft still
in the clutch disc where it had broken at the nose of the transmission.
Wanted Van to buy him a new transmission. Van refused ... the clutch did
what it was supposed to do!
