SOLAR POWER BECOMING MORE AFFORDABLE
In California where rolling blackouts and energy woes are
creating day to day problems, more and more people are
turning to solar power. KNX Radio, the Los Angeles CBS
all-news station, reports that during the past two decades
the cost of solar-powered generating units has dropped by
as much as 90 percent. The new outlet says that years of
research by the Department of Energy has led to the
production of more-effective solar cells. While solar is
still not a replacement for large generating stations, it
is now in the price range of many homeowners and small
business owners. Additionally, better wind-harnessing
"windmills" are being used, particularly in southern
California, near Palm Springs. Massive towers with
three-bladed rotors are turning the winds that roar
through valleys in that area into electrical power.
