Since I had the Cast Iron D motor outta the car I decided to spin it apart
this morning and see what I needed for Rings and bearings.... and see if
anything else had any issues.... Well y'all might recall we lost a couple of
Valve seats at the World of speed and then stuck these Dart 230's on without
freshing up the bottome end...( kinda hard to do in a motel parking lot...
less your Joe Amo ... then anything is fair game to include line honing with
a broom stick and 600gt sand paper) ( Joe that oughta get your parking lot
rebuild story rolling )
Anyway the only Piston that had any issues at all was #2 which is the one
that lost the vavle seats.... I wasn't afraid of the little divets on top of
the piston they had a right to be there.... but that top ring sticking kinda
worried me a bit..... On further inspection there is a Hair line crack on
the underside of the dome right by the top of the pin boss....
Okay now for the test of common sense..... did I buy 10 pistons? like a
good little boy? ahhhh NOPE.... I was playing a pretty fair member of the
"we tight club" so now I get to order 4.... seems to be Ross's minimum
order....
All and All.... pretty fair deal.... spun this motor to 8950 a couple of
times... and Brad just spun it to 8400 at the last meet.... all with what I
can only assume was a Crack that resulted from the Valves seats coming out
Three Races ago.... Hmmm 200mph with a cracked piston... not a bad deal....
Since it didn't come apart!!!
Lesson Learned..... Lesson Passed along.... ORDER 10 ....
