Being a dyed in the wool Ford guy I love to relate this story.
When I was a lad working as an apprentice with Dad..so this would be about
1962 or 3... we used to spraypaint cars for clients as well as mechanical
repairs etc.
We had a Lady client who was a friend & a fiddler in Dads Country & Western
Band, "Red Falkner & The Blue Canyon Boys"...there aint no blue canyons
anyplace round here but who gave a sh......anyhow She had a 1958 Holden in
black that needed a repaint.
When refitting all the exterior trim etc Dad noticed that the bonnet
[hood] badge lettering was interchangeable...
so HOLDEN became HELDON.....6 months pass then one day Lorna comes in
looking for trouble, bawls us out for switching the letters & we better put
them back pronto!...this became my job along with the service at the same
time.
Well, I couldnt just let it go at that when I discovered a more appropriate
name for her pride & joy plus a sly reference to her good self.
...OLDHEN...looked real good!. It was at least another 3 months before she
came storming back in mock anger greeted by cacaphonious laughter.
