LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Illinois Introduces Unfair Operable Vehicle Removal Bill

An outrageous bill (H.B. 3399) has been introduced in the Illinois
Legislature that would allow county boards to declare operable vehicles on
private property a nuisance and order them to be removed, unless they are
registered as "Historic." Under current law, only inoperable vehicles can
be targeted for removal.

We Urge You to Contact Your State Legislators to Oppose This Bill

7H.B. 3399 provides that once a county board has declared an operable
vehicle a nuisance, the owner has only seven days to remove it before facing
fines.

7H.B. 3399 states that if the vehicle owner does not or cannot afford to
dispose of the operable vehicle, a law enforcement agency may be authorized
to remove it

7H.B. 3399 allows county boards to deem a legally registered vehicle a
nuisance, based solely on its appearance.

7H.B. 3399 does not define what constitutes an operable nuisance vehicle,
allowing county boards to make these decisions.

7H.B. 3399 is unfair to the low-income vehicle owners, many of which depend
on the low-cost transportation that older and less pristine cars provide.

7H.B. 3399 would make it difficult for hobbyists to work on project vehicles
on private property.

7H.B. 3399 demonstrates a lack of understanding of the vehicle hobby and the
rights of hobbyists.

Contact your state legislators and oppose this legislation. This bill
tramples on the rights of vehicle enthusiasts and collectors in Illinois.
