timing chains

  Yesterday as I tore my engine down to replace the camshaft I noticed my
timing chain had excessive slop in it . This chain was put in only last
winter and the total mileage couldn't exceed 4000miles.It is a double roller
and is in a 440 mopar engine . The chain itself is a Mopar Performance
piece.Anyone else experience this kind of premature wear in a chain before?
I can't see how I could have installed it incorrectly.
