Doug,
I agree completely with your position. One of the real grips here seems
to be the expense of securing FIA sanction. I don't care what you call
it, an organization that will perform the function that FIA does is
going to cost some extra cash. I personally am very happy to hold a
SCTA, Maxton, Muroc, or BNI record. As Jack has said, you can call your
record what ever you want. Many do. "I have the World's Fastest 1934
Ford Black & Gray primered Comp Coupe powered by a 304 Cu in Chevrolet
engine." I think you can see where I am going with this. Everyone can
make their own claim to fame if you get definitive enough.

I don't think that many of us would really benefit from World
Recognition, except for possibly our egos. I realize that some may need
this recognition to gain sponsorship for future goals, but I really have
doubts that any other organization is going to supplant FIA in this area
as long as FIA is active. They have the track record to run on. As I
have said before, this makes for good discussion, but I don't think that
it is going anywhere. My vote would be to maintain the credible systems
that we have. When you mix apple and oranges you end up with neither
apple butter nor orange juice.
