Glen, Mike,
I followed the discussion about International records etc and it
seems that, class problems apart, the main reason why Bonneville
racers have "problems" with the FIA is about costs.
Now, correct me if I am wrong, but the FIA representative that comes
to the World Finals to certify FIA records is from one of the US
clubs that are affiliated to the FIA (NHRA, USAC etc), same as it
happens whenever somebody sets up a private attempt. And I assume the
costs involved are in part actual FIA charges, while a part is likely
to be the affiliated club charges.
Then, could not the SCTA/BNI obtain affiliation as well, get the
timing apparatus approved etc, and then be able to time FIA records
direct (of course under the FIA rules)? I realize I am talking about
things I do not know much about and there could be a thousand serious
reasons why this is not possible, just a question that sprang to my
mind...
