Apologies to the list for getting a digit wrong, I blame conversion from
the metric!! (Actually finger trouble with these keys and not re-reading
what is written).
The high salt flats are at over 10,000 feet (approx 3000 metres) amongst
the higher peaks (20,000 feet) of the Andes. Called the Bolivian
Altiplano. Find a map of Bolivia and look for the 'Salar de Uyuni'. (Go
east from Iquique on the Chilean coast). I understand the area is so arid,
remote and inhospitable that it may never be a well used location, but
there is a tourist hotel made from salt for the real hardy back packing
visitor. The few members of the local population mine the salt by cutting
large blocks from the lake.
This location may be closer for US racers than Lake Gairdner but probably
not suitable for any air breathing engines - can anyone dial in the air
density correction with air temperatures at 40#?
