DRUG SMUGGLERS FIND AIRCRAFT TIRES A GREAT HIDING PLACE
As customs inspectors get wiser, smugglers get more
inventive. The latest seizure of cocaine at Miami
International Airport was a stash, worth more than
$2 million, hidden in a Michelin aircraft tire. According
to the Miami Herald, inspectors found the drugs in one of
four spare tires aboard a cargo plane that had just arrived
from Bogota, Colombia. The drugs were found during a
routine search using sniffer dogs. Inspectors tell the
publication that it's been a while since smugglers have
used tires to hide that kind of contraband. The smugglers
may have taken a cue from an attempt several years ago in
which a similar cache was found in another 747, this one
about to leave Miami for Hong Kong.
