"John, I wonder if you could fill us in on some of the details of your
very healthy
small block Chev ( MY favorite choice of racing powerplant, even if NOT that
of
my sons ! ) ...... WITHOUT giving away any of those " good ole boy "
southern
speed secrets ? You know ..... stuff like head type, bore & stroke,
C.R., basic induction type ( forget all that nitrous bottled HP stuff ......
just interested in the set up you use with gas only ), type of rockers,
camshaft drive, maybe a little about the cam itself ....... without
revealing anything you regard as confidential !!!
Bruce ...... up here in the great fall weather of New England"

OK Bruce here's the poop. It's all very basic SB Chebby stuff. Low $$$ too.
Only makes about 500 HP, but it ran a 231 MPH that way
Block - old 327, 4.02", two bolt.
Crank - old 302, 3", from swap meet.
Rods - Aluminum
Heads - Dart iron eagle, bowl blending at home
Compression - 12.5 to 1
Cam - Chet Herbert roller, off the shelf.
Cam Drive - Roller chain.
Rockers - 1.6
Intake - Edelbrock Victor.
Carb - Holley HP series, right out of the box, 'yeah we change jets some'.
How much HP can be gained from a trick of the month cam, 18 deg. heads or
Hilborn? My guess is probably in the 50+ HP range. Dave Dahlgren knows enough
tricks to get 600 HP I'm sure. Hmmm, maybe with a few more $$$ I can get
this thing to go 250 MPH normally aspirated?
