As I told Wilbur and Orville, no that's another story.
Louise this is how I remember it;
Firestone was the only domestic supplier when I started in LSR 1962. They
offered tires in 18 and 16 inch rim diameters specifically for Bonneville.
In the late 60s they came out with some low profile "70" series (aspect
ratio, section width Vs height) tires in 18, 16 and 15 inch rim diameters.
Firestone quit supplying tires around 1978 or so. Lots of us ran used Indy
roadster tires from the sixties with the tread shaved off, and some still
do. Mickey Thompson got Sears and ?????? (dam I can't remember the
manufacturers name, US Royal I think) to make some 8.00-15 LSR tires about
the same time he was getting them to provide tires for his Indy car project.
Ermie Imeroso (sp) also had a deal on 18 inch tires in the 70's but I don't
know who made them. Mickey Thompson tire co. has been selling one 16 inch
tire and two 18 inch LSR tires for the last five years or so. Goodyear only
got into the LSR tire arena with projects like Craig Breedloves car. They
began offering essentially beefed up versions of their drag racing "front
runner" series in 15 inch rim diameters in the last eight years. People also
ran Firestone, Goodyear and Dunlop road and stock car racing tires over the
years. M&H has a front tire that has been available in the last few years.
Haven't seen any Hoosiers.
As usual mileage may vary with the user so don't treat these words as
gospel.
