Hey guys i did not mean to bust anyone with this info .. Just to let
everyone know what is possible that is all.. If I were to do this for
myself i might change a lot of things for a bonneville car and my
personal budget. I do not own this this thing. My job was to set up the
electronics, it is the business I am in. In the first place I would not
use the aluminum block that was used as it is very expensive and you
have to heat it up to 125 degrees before you can start the engine or the
bearings will scuff..I would also replace the 20k electronics for
something that costs about 1500.The intake manifold is very nice and do
not think that I would change that part. The turbo on this costs about
7500 for one.. I would swap it for one that costs about 1500..you could
probably build a version of this that costs closer to 25k that would be
suitable for short duration running like bonneville. you do have to
remember that the reason this Nissan is so expensive is you can stay on
the pedal for 24 hours and it will not break.. The cost of reliability
is much more that what it costs to make the power.. I really don't think
that 25k is all that much in the bigger picture of things. If you put
together a SBC and are serious about it. you have to start with about
7500 for cylinder heads, 2200 for an intake and 1000 or so for 2 carbs
that are all done up..you are already at 11k and you do not have a short
block yet.. a block is around 2500 for a bow tie all done up pistons 700
rods 1200 crank 1000 cam and valve gear 1500 cam drive 400 oiling system
(dry sump) about 2500...starter and flywheel has to go about
500..ignition 750 water pump and damper another 400 headers about 500..
so i come up with a total of 22650 to build a SBC and I am sure I missed
a few things..The price to build a BBC would be similar. I know it costs
25k to build a 13b mazda turbo that will make 750 hp.. As far as the
nostalgia stuff goes didn't I see it costs 13k just to get a new set of
heads for an Ardun.. That thing has to cost 20k at least when you are
done and I bet 25k is closer.. I am working on the assumption that you
have a car with nothing under the hood or under the bench.. Have I
missed something here or is racing still expensive? I think everyone
ought to open the hood of their car that thinks this is expensive and
look around with a calculator in their hand and add up what it would
take to replace everything with new parts. You might be surprised! I
know if we opened up the lakester and did this I would come up with 30k
real quick to run in 'G'....
