There was a previous thread on 3 liter engines and power output
available. I just got back from a tune-up session on a Nissan 3 liter
V-6 single overhead cam engine, turbo charged and intercooled to 70" hg
absolute..fuel was VP C16. This engine was used in the late 80's early
90's in the Nissan GTP cars and this tune up rather mild as they used to
run 100"hg manifold pressure.. results .. 820 hp at 7400 rpm @ 70"hg
abs. That's about 20 lbs of boost over atmospheric.. torque was about
700 ft/lbs at 5600.. Hope this helps. Please also note that this is a
milder state of tune than was used in 24 hour races. The only reason we
stopped here was we ran out of compressor and did not want to over speed
the turbo..I am certain with a new turbo with a larger compressor and
exhaust housing and another 1000 rpm that 1000 hp is well within reach.
I hope this helps define the power available with this engine when
reasonably well developed.. Now for the downside.. Engine complete with
turbo about 75k electronics add another 20k... Oh well did say it was
cheap.. On the upside 85 to 90 % of this can be had for 1/2 the money
for short distance use.. The engine was built an engineering company
that also runs a Nissan Indy car program (IRL)....
