Hot Rod Magazine's own history of the sport dates
it's roots back to the lakes and the salt. The
quarter mile standard evolved only because it was
"suburban-friendly". Some hot rodders build
motors that live for more than six seconds and
race farther than 1320 feet though! Haven't you
ever seen land speed racing? It's hot rodding the
way it was born. It's great that we have fine,
mail-order billet parts, crate motors, repro
bodies, cruise-ins, Christmas Trees (not the
December type), and
"mail-order-on-line-anything-for-your-dream
car-that-you-wish", and specialty shops that will
put it all together for you - but
"REAL" HOT RODDING
still lives!
