I got many more responses to this one than I ever anticipated. Joe Timney
theorized that it may be something about the rotary engine that attracts
birds. That would be pretty good, since I'm the only naturally aspirated
rotary at Maxton, except that I hit the bat (who appeared to be in hot
pursuit of a large moth which flew into my headlights) with Betsy and it's
still an OHC inline four. I think it's more likely that they just can't see
me coming. That battleship gray paint on the USS Wankel is awful close to
the color of the Maxton concrete. (Betsy's oxidized blue ain't much better)
Maybe I need a contrasting color like the white and silver cars at
Bonneville, except this one would only need to be visible from the front.
I had a lot of fun with this. Thanks to all who provided information and
