Well now maybe all the EFI guys can get together and petition ERC or the
SCTA (whichever is responsible) to supply Unleaded Race Gas. Rick Gold says
that the lead content won't hurt the O2 sensor in the short run. However it
will have an effect eventually, degrading the effectiveness of the sensor as
time goes on until it is totally ineffective. So putting a $400 sensor in
periodically is something I would like to avoid.
Keep in mind that the best octane for unleaded is about 104. So it may
present some problems with high cylinder pressures. Sunoco says there's is
good to 14 to 1, don't know how to equate that to a turbo application.
Unleaded fuel, because it is highly oxygenated, won't pass the regular
dielectric test. Which I haven't seen SCTA use in years. And since tanks are
sealed anyway at Bonneville the event supplier should be able to maintain
control over the situation. It wouldn't be unfair to anyone as this fuel
would be available to all racers.
