I appreciate your comments. I think that all of us who are participants
in Land Seed Racing are ready and willing to point any newcomer in the
right direction. We were all once where you are.
I started in this arena as a 1/4 mile racer with a very modest Chrysler
(as in 257 cu. in flat head six) powered '41 Plymouth coupe that ran in
the low 70 MPH bracket. As I was able to step up to more power and
longer runs, and higher speeds, I did. It is a process for most of us.
We learn as we go. (You could teach me a lot about autocrossing since I
have not been exposed to that type of racing.) I really think that the
unfortunate ones are those that inherit the fast rides without having to
work their way through the lower speeds. I can honestly say that
although I yearn for greater speeds, and I'm not sure I could readily go
back to the slower classes, it was just as much fun to run in those days
when we were striving to go 160 MPH.
It is really good to see the interest and enthusiasm that is being
displayed for land speed racing. I can remember a time when it seemed
that it was a dying sport. Instead, it has developed into sport for the
whole family. Don't hesitate to get involved. It sounds like Maxton
would be the place for you to get started. Maybe, soon you would be
setting your sights on the Maxton 200 MPH Club. Few of us become
satisfied with the speeds we are currently running! Then, who knows,
some day you may find your way to the Salt.
