I suppose nothing is pure luck when you consider it took 5 years, two
cars and 3 engines to finally get it right. I've always felt you made
your own luck (whatever it is), but sometimes somebody or something just
smiles.

Open Road Racing is a hoot. They close 100 miles of public highway,& put
the cars into classes to compete. you can run as fast as you dare, as
long as you have the proper safety equipment. And yes, most people have
a navigator so the right seat is always open! My old Vette ran 10 races
on the same motor (1000+ miles at over 150 mph), but, the secret of
longevity is low rpm. I could "cruise" at 160 mph at 5500 rpm (4+3
trans, .69 overdrive, 3:07 rear)
This is how I got into "salt" : Ely Nv. is the staging point for the
Silver State Classic. In 1992, while killing time before the race, I
made the 120 mile trip up the road to Wendover. *Hooked* at firt sight.
Came back next year, ran 150 Club. Didn't make it in '93 but did in '94.
Next year was spent converting the car to a C/GT, And so it goes.....
Now even some of the salt racers out here run these races. Last May,
Chuck Salmon drove & Mary West Navigated her Camaro.(I accused Chuck of
driving to 7-11 faster, it had to be a little lame after driving the
$um Fun roadster at 250 mph) Hey! Anything for a giggle
