Hi all
I had said I would pass along info as I got it concerning Save the Salt
progress. It is quoted from the latest U.S.F.R.A. newsletter, and can be
seen at our web site.

Larry Volk gave a Save the Salt report at our April 1st meeting and the
display he brought in was no joke. He brought a slat that had been upright
on the salt all winter since a commercial
shoot in October. Above where it had been driven into the mud the slat had
almost an inch of salt around the stick continuing up about eight inches.
At water level it had almost three
inches of build up and that tapered up another six inches until you could
see wood. Reilly has been great to keep the pumps running steadily since
October 31, 1998. The calculated salt
tonnage pumped this 98/99 year is 1.9 million (that's 1,900,000 tons,
racing fans). The target for a full winter of pumping was 1,500,000 tons,
three times what was put down last year
and we still have the rest of April for additional pumping. If the bonding
at surface level is good we may have a start on our old original eleven
mile course that will hold up for a week. We
want a big share of the rest of that 76,000,000 tons they have south of the
freeway.
Sounds like progress to me!!
