I have been reading with interest, the frustration you are all feeling
over the points race. I am not familiar with the rules regarding points
accrual for your venue, but I know the SCTA had to work for many years
to finally come up with a system which seems to be a little more fair -
but land speed racers seem to be very ingenious people and we still see
folks playing the points game.
One of the things we did was require all vehicles to remain in the same
body classification for the full racing season. They can change engine
class - go from gas to fuel and from unblown to blown - but if you start
as a coupe you stay a coupe -
No jumping from lakester to streamliner or coupe to altered, etc.
That seems to have tightened the race up considerably - but it took many
years of politicking to get it done.
If you want more info, ask our office to send you a copy of the "El
Mirage Procedures" which is a supplemental group of rules used only at
El Mirage and is an attempt to codify our "tribal knowledge".

Hope to see you all at Muroc!
