Well, I did a bit more research=E2=80=A6actually in my own files and =
came up with this, below, from Roger Moment:-

QUOTE

From: owner-healeys@autox.team.net =

Subject: king pins

=20

A while back I posted a note alerting folks to the problem with some =
=E2=80=9Cgeneric=E2=80=9D kingpins that Moss was selling at the time. =
They were a BEAR to install and required much modification of the =
bushings to even provide proper lubrication.

I spoke with Michael Grant at Moss and he was very concerned about the =
problem. Subsequently he has re-sourced their kingpins from someone in =
England who has the tooling and, I believe, supplied Quintin Hazel. =
That is, the product the new source is providing is EXACTLY like the Q-H =
kingpins that had been available in the past.

I have just finished installing one of these new sets and am happy to =
report that they are really GREAT!!! They have the properly machined =
bushings, sized to go in with just the proper =E2=80=9Ccrush=E2=80=9D, =
and the correct cork rings. Plus the zirc fittings have the correct =
size threads and hex. The fulcrum pins even fit the bottom hole in the =
king pin properly and don=E2=80=99t require additional fussing.

The new box these king pins come in is still plain brown, but it has the =
following markings on it:

1) a blue-white-red Union Jack with MADE IIN GREAT BRITAIN

2) a white tag with QHQP295TCF and KING PIN SET BIG HEA and MADE IN =
:U.K.

=20

I believe Moss has replaced their older, poor-quality stock and the new =
ones are what you=E2=80=99ll receive if you order now. If you have some =
of the bad ones that you haven=E2=80=99t installed, I suggest you =
contact Moss about trying to exchange them.

And finally, for those of you who like to flame suppliers when parts =
aren=E2=80=99t perfect, be aware that many time suppliers do care, but =
need to get proper input as to problems. I am very impressed with the =
way Moss responded to this issue.

Remember that the parts business is very competitive regarding price, =
which drives suppliers to look for the cheapest parts to sell. Many of =
you will change suppliers over a few cents savings and that hurts those =
who may have better parts at higher prices. You often get what you pay =
for. Just remember.

Roger

That just about covers it!?!

As to using a QH part number..debatable but not too serious.

Hi Simon,

=20

If you google that QH part number, you'll see that it's not just Moss =
that uses it, but a number of other suppliers as well. Would be =
interesting to see what packaging they come in and where it says "Made =
in ..."=20

On Fri, Oct 27, 2023 at 1:57=E2=80=AFPM Simon Lachlan via Healeys =

Hi, I was browsing UK eBay the other day when I saw a King Pin set for =
sale from Moss Europe.:-=20

Austin-Healey 100-4 100-6 3000 - King pin =
<https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173693416361> & Bush set - 1953-1968 =
BN1-BJ8 | eBay

Or just enter 173693416361.

This item caught my attention because, after reading Roger=E2=80=99s =
book, I was reminded that QH King Pins are hard to find and was pleased =
to find some at the big Beaulieu autojumble some weeks ago. I doubted =
that any big suppliers would have QH sets on their shelf and I =
furthermore doubted that, if they did have them, they=E2=80=99d need to =
flog them on eBay=E2=80=A6..

Anyhow, you=E2=80=99ll see that they=E2=80=99re giving it a Quentin =
Hazell part number which I don=E2=80=99t think is appropriate as I =
suspect that it=E2=80=99s not QH.

I queried:- =E2=80=9CIs this a genuine Q Hazell item? Thanks=E2=80=9D

They replied:- =E2=80=9CQH PART NUMBER, BUT NOT BOXED IN QH PACKAGING. =
rEGARDS=E2=80=9D

I replied:- =E2=80=9CThank you for this. But not very helpful. Is it a =
genuine QH part?

They replied:-

=E2=80=9CI dont believe so, I have no data to confirm QH we just use the =
part number.=E2=80=9D

=20

Naturally, I=E2=80=99m not accusing anyone, not hoping to be sued =
here=E2=80=A6.but I think it=E2=80=99s careless to say the least. =
Anybody got anything to add?? I suppose I=E2=80=99m just =
curious=E2=80=A6..does Moss have form for this?

Doubt I=E2=80=99ll pester eBay about this as I expect they=E2=80=99d not =
be too bothered.
