Wire size is the way to identify coil spring rates.
100/6s and early 3000s had a wire size of .535=94, 225 lbs/in, free length=
varies 11=94 to 12=94;
MKII coils are .590=94, 330 lbs/in, free length approx. 10-1/2=94,
BJ8 coils are .610=94, 385 lbs/in, free length approx 10-1/4=94 long

Thanks to the many individuals who helped with my questions concerning coil=
springs for the Healey.
Below are listed actual measurements of freestanding coil length taken by o=
wners, except for the BN1-4 coil, which was a recollection of one owner.
BN1 to BN4 - 14=94-15=94 (freestanding coil length)
BN6 - 12=94
BT7 - 11 13/16=94
BJ8 - 10 1/8=94
Coil thickness through BT7 was =BD=94 and for the BJ8 was 5/8=94.
So the Healey front coil has become shorter and firmer as it has been upgra=
ded through the years.
More important, a number of owners reported fitting the BJ8 coil to earlier=
Healeys without problem and said ride height was unchanged or about the sa=
me.
I started this thread because Moss recommended the early spring for my BT7 =
but logically it made more sense to me to install the spring specified at t=
he end of the development cycle (BJ8) than at the beginning (BN1). I am goi=
ng to buy the BJ8 spring because it will reduce body roll in cornering, han=
dle a little better, and if it has a slightly firmer ride as one owner repo=
rted, I can easily tolerate that.
Thanks again,

I have several ft coil springs that I'd like to identify. I recall that th=
