Today, after putting everything back together I took her for a drive. Firs=
t thing I noticed is that she was I
od before I even flipped the switch. Stayed there the whole time even in f=
irst gear . Would kick in and out as the speed dropped. Came home--pulled=
everything to get to the sw. The arm on the right side was sitting higher=
up over the hole. The solenoid worked nicely and the arm moved up and dow=
n.The arm that is moved by the solenoid was clamped toght--no slippage ther=
e.\When in OD, the arm did not line up exactly with the hole---off a bit---=
-and a little jiggling allowed the holes to align. Weird that is was i OD=
and stayed there the whole time.Any additional thoughts? Anyone have a Sm=
itty's 5 speed they want to sell:) I'm getting a bit tired of this OD thin=

Without making this too messy. With the gearbox and o/d in the car and a co=
ncern that the solenoid adjustment is not correct or the pressure is low it=
=E2=80=99s a matter of attaching a wire to lift the old lever and take the =
car for a ride. Third or Forth gear and pull gently on the wire. The result=
s will tell you where the problem really is. I definitely do not recommend =
driving the car with the gearbox tunnel removed. Things can get nasty with =
the driveshaft spinning unprotected that close to you.=20

Subject: Re: [Healeys] OD BJ8 Yes, and I agree with Michael, and Simon's
note; a pressure test is in order. Problem always being
obtaining a gauge and fittings. However, it is imperative
that the pressure be 400+lbs. or it is not producing a good
overdrive exchange. Electrics are one thing, and pressure
 another-then, wear factor a third.

If it does not hit 400, you might as well rebuild the unit, or
at least clean it and retest. Disengagement is a result of the
pressure being released, and the 8 springs pushing the clutch
back to direct drive. You need the 400 lbs. to overcome the 8
springs, and quickly move the clutch forward to OD.=20
