Chris,
The ARP bolts are an excellent suggestion. I used grade 8 but still had the
head clearance problem. I will change to ARP.

Thanks Curt.
I used arp stainless high tensile 170,000 psi bolts, with an undersized hex
head, so there is no issue getting a socket on them. I also made up a
thicker tapered washer so I could apply as much clamping force to the shock,
spread over as big an area as possible.
And the back is a drilled piece of mild steel with 2 nuts welded on.
Once the nuts are captive, all the effort can be applied to torquing the
bolts up.
