No need to change the plugs every 12.000mls. Just check them every year
or when the idling starts getting a bit rough (can also be caused by
several other problems like carbs, points, capacitor, distributor cap,
plug leads). When dirty clean them properly and re-gap. Only when worn
replace them, which in practice will be hardly ever as the yearly
mileage is usually rather low.
