In the early 90's I acquired a BJ8 that had been abandoned for 8 yrs. that =
had been sitting outside with a hole in the convertible top. Someone had s=
tolen the glove box side, presumably for the lock, so that piece wasn't the=
re. The gauge side was there but badly cracked like yours so I removed the=
finish back to the plywood. I purchased some marine plywood and made a ne=
w glove box side and bought some bookmatched burl walnut veneers to cover b=
oth pieces. I finished the new veneers with maybe a dozen or more coats of=
marine varnish, sanded between coats and finished with carnauba wax. The =
result was spectacular. Good luck.
