My two cents would be to check that the end of the rod where it turns 90
degrees and goes into the ratchet mechanism, it should have a washer and a
cotter pin to hold it in place . Is all this in place ? Sounds like when you
push the button , the shaft is backing out of the ratchet mechanism plate .
