I am n the process of having my Healey engine rebuilt and had to deal with
the oil restrictors. First off your machine shop did the right thing by
removing the restrictors, it is the only the crank can be properly cleaned
and the restrictors can be checked, replaced and sized per OEM
specifications. The only source I could find for new restrictors is Dennis
Welch and they have them in two diameters, stock and oversized. I bought the
DW restrictors but in discussion with the machine shop we decided to tap the
crank oil journals and make screw in brass restrictors to avoid and peeling
of the brass or damage caused by pressing the DW OEM type and to avoid the
possibility of the restrictors moving as you have pointed out in your email.
This might sound a bit over the top but it really wasn't. It wasn't
difficult to tap the crank and the screw in restrictors were easily made.

I just got my 6-cyl crank back from the machine shop. In the process of
cleaning, etc. they removed the oil restrictors. I believe the restrictors
are necessary to ensure that an equal amount of oil is fed to both oil hole
locations on the rod journals.
I believe I know where they go inside the drilled holes in the crank. My
question is two-fold. How low below the surface of the rod journal should
they be located? My assumption is that as long as they are located between
the internal junction of the smaller drilled hole and the surface of the
journal, that will be okay. Can anyone confirm this?
My big fear is that due to centrifugal force, they work their way to the
surface with resulting destruction of the bearings. My inclination is to
locate them just past the junction of the smaller drilled hole. This would
located them closer to the centerline of the rotating mass of the
crankshaft, which would minimize the centrifugal force on the restrictors.
