Yes, I am prying it up, but it does not move easily.  When I pry it up there is 
pressure on the wheel cylinder making it difficult to slide out.  Heck, it's 
been in there 61 years.

Is there a way to remove the rear axle brake cylinder without destroying the 
two plates that lock together to hold it to the backplate?
