I had it happen on my 100. Twice. The first time it happened it was not coming
loose no matter how hard I pulled on the release. And not sure why I thought of
it, but I took a plastic tool I had for inserting the rubber tubing for
repairing screen doors and ran it in between the rear of the bonnet and the
front of the cowell. (SP?) Anyway, this pushed the bonnet forward enough and
the bonnet popped right up. It seems I may have bent or slipped the catch
mechanism on the bonnet as I was trying to adjust it to hold the bonnet a bit
tighter and lower.

Moved things around and tried again and sure enough it wouldn't open. Tried the
plastic roller tool again and it worked again. Next adjustment went the
opposite direction and the bonnet opened and closed with no problems. And I
never had the problem again, but I carry the plastic tool on my parcel shelf
just in case. It's been a few years now and I always hold my breath when
opening the engine compartment. Knock wood.

If that hadn't worked, I have no idea what I would have done other than trying
to go up from under he car with a series of mirrors and magic tricks.

I have read about this problem several occasions and shudder to think what I
would have to do if it happened on my 100. The release mechanism is on
centerline directly behind the valve cover and above the bell housing and it
would not be accessible from below as it is on a 6-cylinder car.

Has any 100 owner ever had to deal with this issue and if so what is the
solution?
