Try having British cars! Seriously, take it out, we pull the pumpkins at r=
aces all the time and throw them back in. You will be able to tell a lot j=
ust by looking at it and don't need to be an expert. Look closely at the t=
eeth for a wear pattern. Look for places where the teeth are making contact=
, look for ridges worn into the gears. Ridges would be bad. Look for a we=
ar pattern that is either too low or way too high on the pinion gear. Look =
for what you think might be excessive lash in the gears. If you're lucky y=
our rebuilder will re set the gears with shims. Or if the pattern looks re=
asonable, maybe it's just noisy. You're better to check it now than risk b=
lowing it up and having it take out your transmission. Done that.

Mitchell, you better pull that one out and have a look. Setting up the gea=
rs is tricky and if not aligned properly wear will destroy them.
I have done this myself in the past and finally did one right. But now I ta=
ke them to professionals, but those guys sometime don't know what they're d=
oing/make mistakes. Pulling the pumpkin should take you less than an hour =
on that car. When you drain the oil you can look for shrapnel in the oil.

Subject: [Healeys] Rear end noise
Experts,
I had the Lempert gear set installed in my 1966 BJ8 this year put about 2=
000 miles on it.
I have a pretty loud hum at about 35-45 mph.........the hum only occurs whe=
n accelerating.....when you let off it goes away.
Can someone tell me what is causing it ? can the new gears be readjuste=
d if that's the problem?
Thanks in advance
Mitchell
