Hello

=20

In the mid to late 1940s the UK was starved for cars and if you could =
find one they were very expensive. Healey cars were directed to the =
well-heeled and the rolling chassis alone was around =C2=A3900 before =
tax. My Healey Duncan complete would have set you back =C2=A32,876 inc =
tax. If you check out on Google what that would be worth today that will =
be around US$140K. It didn=E2=80=99t help that the British government =
taxed any car below =C2=A31,000 at 33% and for those above =C2=A31,000 =
at 66%.

=20

However the DHMC was going backwards financially and if it =
wasn=E2=80=99t for an injection of cash through DMH=E2=80=99s meeting =
with George Mason of Nash-Kelvinator that led to the Nash-Healey the =
company would have folded and there would be no such thing as an =
Austin-Healey.

Thank you. Hard to imagine earning a living from so few cars. I know =
they did tuning and other work. But still....when did they get the car =
dealership?

It should be remembered that as far as Healey cars are concerned that =
the Donald Healey Motor Company did not make complete cars.

=20

They made rolling chassis where the bodywork were fitted by outside =
coachbuilding firms or contractors.

=20

In total 1,287 Healey cars were built between October 1946 through to =
last Nash-Healeys and Tickfords. This does not include the last Le Mans =
Healeys of the late 1960s and 1970 of which there was just a handful.
