You definitely want to put in that shaft and the heat shield on the bell =
housing side of the driver=E2=80=99s foot well before you install the =
engine and transmission. I learned that the hard way.

Hi Bruce,
As I recall they are actually "cage" nuts and they are inside the heater =
box (cross duct).
You can see at least the RHS ones through the large hole in the heater =
box above the passengers feet as I recall.=20

The holes that you are looking for are in the bottom of the heater box =
just inboard of the inner walls of the footwells.
