I'm quite sure Dave knows exactly what he is buying into so the
following is a little tongue in cheek, no offense.
Barn Find? In dry storage since the sixties? Oh dear! This will end up a
total restoration. First step drain the oil from engine, gearbox and
diff. It will dollop out like liquid tar and take a week to drain. This
gets you thinking the drive train will be a mess inside so you need to
pull it all out and inspect it. Well you hope everything above the
sludge line isn't red rusty. If your lucky it isn't, but all of the
seals have dried out so it all has to come apart. So then you find that
this is in fact a second hand sports car that has been used and abused
and its all pretty tired so you recondition everything including the
engine which has seized rings from sitting so long, and possibly seized
pistons, which you knock out with a sledge hammer. Meanwhile you
recondition the gearbox and overdrive and replace diff axle bearings and
seals. Sounds easy doesn't it. Naturally you would also replace the
clutch plate and have the pressure plate checked. So your not going to
put all of these assemblies back into the car car without repainting
them all are you. However while you have been crawling around under the
car you have noticed a little rust in the body / chassis
unit..............see part 2
